Frequently Asked Questions
What types of payment do you accept?
All services are currently private pay. Payment is due at the time of service. We accept cash, credit card, check, or HSA/FSA cards. As We Speak can provide billing statements through use of a “superbill.” A “superbill” statement can be submitted to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement; however, As We Speak cannot guarantee reimbursement. Patient is responsible for determining out-of-network requirements and benefits.
As We Speak is also an approved provider for STL Variety Club’s TherHappy Program. Visit STL Variety Club’s website https://varietystl.org/get-help/ to see if you qualify for their therapy grant.
Can you visit with my child at their school?
Absolutely. We want to meet your kiddo where they feel most comfortable, and if that is at school, we’d love to see them in their surroundings! The SLP and your family will work together with your child’s school to determine appropriate service times and delivery.
What types of speech and language conditions do you treat?
We have provided speech and language services for children with the following diagnoses:
Language disorders/delay
Articulation disorders
Childhood Apraxia of speech
Autism spectrum disorders
Deaf and hard of hearing
Cerebral Palsy
Cortical visual impairments
Down Syndrome
Rett Syndrome
This isn’t an exhaustive list, and if your child doesn’t fall within one of those categories, don’t be surprised to know that you’re not alone. We would love to talk in more detail to see if we’d be a good fit for your family.
Who might need speech therapy?
Children with development delays, individuals with neurological conditions, people with hearing loss, those recovering from head injuries, and adults with speech impairments due to illness or injury.
What does an SLP evaluation involve?
Our evaluations include a comprehensive assessment including case history, observation of the child’s communication skills, testing, and analysis of speech and language samples to identify specific needs and develop a treatment plan based on these results.
Do I need a doctor’s referral to see an SLP?
As We Speak is currently a private pay therapy provider. This is to ensure the best care possible as insurance can limit the parameters regarding frequency, type, and duration of services. In most cases, private pay providers will not require a doctor’s referral. However, if you are using outside grants for therapy funding, you may be required to have a doctor’s referral. However, if you are utilizing Variety Club STL benefits, a doctor’s referral will be required.
What if my child had a speech and language evaluation by a licensed therapist within the last year?
If your child has had an evaluation by a licensed speech-language pathologist within the last year, there may not be a need for another evaluation.
Do you offer screenings to individuals, daycares, or private schools?
Yes! We have performed mass screenings for private schools and daycare settings. If you are a daycare director or school teacher/administrator, reach out to determine the best approach for your setting.
My child did not qualify for services through First Steps or the local school district, could they still benefit from services?
Yes! If you have concerns regarding your child’s development, schedule a consultation with one of our speech language pathologists today. Private therapy services have different parameters for qualifying than state programs. Call or email today, to determine if your child could benefit from private therapy services.
